Thanks for exploring the Lewis Counseling Inc. website! I’m Tom Lewis, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Addiction Professional, and professional musician. My experience, education and ongoing addiction therapy training are all utilized to assist each client in finding their own solutions for mental health, and maintaining a balanced life.

In my practice you, the client comes first. What brings you to therapy? What do you want to get from therapy? What is already “working” for you? What isn’t working? What would you like to be different… or even better? Utilizing a person centered “eclectic” approach we help you examine the past – “where you were”; the present – “where you are now”; and the future – “where you’d like to be”. Then utilizing Motivational Interviewing techniques and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy we help you figure out “how to get there!”

I started working in addiction treatment by providing Music-Feelings Groups at a Residential Treatment facility in Pennsylvania. After completing my studies and State exam I became a Certified Addictions Counselor CAC) in PA. I worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor at agencies in NJ and PA until moving to FL in 1998. I completed the FL exam and transferred my CAC to FL, becoming a Certified Addiction Professional (CAP). While working as Addiction Program Director at FL State (Psychiatric) Hospital, I returned to school, completed my MS at Nova Southeastern University and became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). During this time I worked in various treatment settings (see below). My counseling private practice began in 2006 and I have provided therapy to countless individuals challenged with many different behavioral health issues.

My work has been in the following settings: Psychiatric Hospital as Director of the Substance Abuse Program (developed and managed the Program, including Joint Commission certification); Residential treatment programs as Primary Therapist, Program Director, Director of Quality Assurance, Director of Risk Management and Executive Officer; Outpatient treatment programs as Program Director, Director of Quality Improvement, Primary Therapist and Psychotherapy in Private Practice.
